Car battery corrosion service and replacement

When is the last time you inspected your car battery and/or had your car battery tested or serviced? Oftentimes, car batteries are overlooked until there is a problem—and with the problem potentially being a dead car battery, at an inopportune time, especially in the wintry months to come, it’s a wise decision to have your car battery assessed and car battery tested before there is a problem.

Corrosion can accumulate around the car battery terminals—caused by small leaks, loose connections, or other factors. As corrosion occurs, you’ll start to see white, green, or blue material building up on the car battery terminals. As this builds up it can start to interfere with the moving charge form the car battery to the engine.

The electric charge inside the car battery needs to be transferred to the engine in order for your vehicle to run. If the corrosion on the car battery terminal is hindering this transfer you may notice a loss of power and may have a situation where your car won’t start at all and will require a jump start. You may also be alerted to a problem with warning lights, dim headlights, clicking sound when you turn the key, slow crank, backfiring or needing the press on the gas pedal in order for it to start.

Not all issues require car battery replacement. However, if your car battery is four-plus years old, a car battery replacement would be recommended. But if the car battery corrosion is not too severe, a car battery service can be performed to remove the car battery corrosion causing issues.

At Babcock Auto Care our car mechanics will inspect your car battery, notate any corrosion found, and test your car battery. Depending on what is found, our Service Advisors will help you decide the best course of action.

With the excellent BG battery service available to our mechanics, typically we can get you terminals cleaned and performing well again. If the corrosion is too caked on and/or the car battery is past its prime, we can recommend and install a new battery for you.
